Who we are
MARUKAICHI SUISAN CO., LTD. マルカイチ水産株式会社

“From the bounty of the sea
to the happiness of people.”

We started in 1972 as one small plant on the Okhotsk coast. Half a century later we run seven plants on Monbetsu Port's No.2 wharf, employ 200 people, and turn over ¥13 billion a year. We adopted HACCP in 2000, long before our neighbours did, because we knew buyers abroad would eventually ask for it. Building it before you are asked is still how we work.

Freshness & safety

Why it still tastes like the day it was landed.

Our factory sits directly on Monbetsu Port's No.2 wharf. What is landed in the morning is inside the plant before lunch — and frozen before the day is out.

Auto Shucker NHS-5000 line
01

The world's first raw auto-shucker

Drop in a whole scallop and the NHS-5000 separates shell, mantle and gut, recovering the adductor raw and untouched. We installed the first in 2018 and run three today — same hygiene as hand-shucking, at a speed and cost hands cannot match.

Scallops landed at Monbetsu Port
02

From the quay to the freezer

No middle warehouse, no overnight truck. Brine freezing, steam-belt tunnel freezing and large-capacity blast freezers sit metres from the receiving door, so the cold chain starts within hours of the catch leaving the water.

Salmon roe sorted by hand
03

Salmon roe, checked grain by grain

Roe is drawn from salmon landed hours earlier and washed one grain at a time. After washing, every batch is sorted by hand on the belt — machines are faster, but they cannot keep the burst intact.

Nothing behind a curtain

Come and look at the line yourself.

We built a public viewing corridor over the scallop line — anyone can watch a whole shell become a packed product. If you would rather read first, start here.

How it works

From first enquiry to shipment.

Six steps, and you are only involved in three of them. We handle the export paperwork and the freight arrangement.

  1. You

    Send an enquiry

Tell us the product, rough volume and destination port. A finished specification is not required.

  2. Marukaichi

    We check stock and quote

We confirm availability, grades and price, and come back with the options that fit.

  3. You

    Place the order

Confirm the specification, packing and terms, then place your order.

  4. Marukaichi

    We prepare the documents

Export paperwork, health certificates and the invoice — all prepared in-house.

  5. You

    Payment

Settle against the invoice. FOB or CFR, whichever suits your side.

  6. Marukaichi

    We ship

Sea freight from Tomakomai Port, air freight from New Chitose Airport.

Lead time depends on the item and the season. We confirm a shipping date with the quotation.
